Most of the schools in Victoria go back today, which means, back to making school lunches, back to early mornings, back to extra curricular activities. I always feel like school going back creeps up on me, and all of a sudden I’m thinking of what to pack into lunches again. I will be doing some gluten free options in the coming school lunch posts, but this week, I’m doing quick and easy, child pleasing stuff.
This is what the lunchboxes look like for tomorrow, plus an apple for Master B.
It’s day 4 of school holidays, and my back is just starting to come good now. I had promised my kids that I’d take them to see a couple of the new movies that have come out, so today we went off to see Despicable Me 2. It was a great movie, all three of my kids (aged 6, 9, 10) enjoyed it, and Miss O managed to stay most of the time in her seat 🙂
Things have been quiet on the blog this week, thanks to sleepless nights and grizzly children, which lead to an inability to write anything comprehendible. But today is Thursday, and it’s time t think about what I am cooking tonight. Usually I try to cook something that will also serve as leftovers for Saturday lunch. This weekend however, is full of birthday parties, so Saturday lunch and dinner are taken care of. Woot woot!
Last night, I had a bit of a disaster in the kitchen. Hubby texted me late afternoon to say that he didn’t get time to stop for lunch, he was starving, and what was for dinner? My response was, brown rice arancini balls with roast veg and guacamole (plus we always make a salad). He replied, nice. Great, so I was happy that he wasn’t put off with the idea of dinner, I hadn’t really prepped it yet because I had run out of brown rice, so had to wait for Miss O to wake before I could pop up to the supermarket and grab some. >
Like most of Australia, I sat on the edge of my seat watching the World Cup qualifiers as they scored goal after goal after goal after goal. Fricking awesome job Soceroos!! One more game to win and we are in the 2014 World Cup!!
I’m at that point of the household food cycle where I’m literally out of everything fresh. I was down to my last zucchini, last couple of carrots – you get the idea! I still managed to throw together a scrumptious chicken and veg soup, followed by a quick and easy chocolate brownie that I’ll be using for school lunch boxes. Continue reading
I’ve noticed lately that my kids seem to be given a lot of lollies and chocolates at school. They won table points, here’s a lollipop. It’s someone’s birthday, here’s a freddo. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not completely opposed to sugar, I just try to limit how much my kids eat it, and also, make sure that if they are having treats, that they are perhaps home cooked cake or a reasonable quality chocolate. Yesterday my kids had a market day at school, and although I asked them not to buy too much junk food, of course, they loaded up on toffees, smarties, mixed lollies and cakes. I probably would have done the same at their age. >
