Tonight’s dinner didn’t start with a recipe. It started with a thought. I knew what flavours I wanted to eat, but I didn’t really know what it was exactly. This is how a lot of my meals start. I’m an emotional eater and also an emotional cook. Have any of you seen Like Water for Chocolate? I love the idea that emotion and love that goes into a meal is felt by the eater. Food is such a sensory journey, and it makes me really sad when I see people eating bad processed food. It makes me even more sad to see kids eating it. Good food is ridiculously simple, and many of our family favourites I would never blog about, because it is literally make a salad and barbeque some meat. Serve. Just as easy as take the packet out of the freezer and cook for 20 mins on one side. Turn piece of factory food over and cook for a further 20 mins. Serve hot, because who knows what will happen once it goes cold!

I was at my nieces birthday on the weekend where her Godfather had made an awesome cake, which he revealed was a slow cooker cake recipe. The concept of a slow cooked cake had never occurred to me before, so straight away I was intrigued.
I am often in the situation where my house is a mess, the kitchen is atrocious, and I’ll think, hmmm, I should bake a cake! Today was one of those days. Problem is, I often make the cake, pop it in the oven and then forget about it! I cannot tell you how many cakes I have burnt in my time. Things have been hectic around here. Miss O who has been waking a lot lately, has been sleeping through again. However, I’ve had my other kids sick, so they have all been waking up instead. Isn’t that always the way? Throw into the mix, my sister and I have been busy recipe testing for our little business, and a school production for two nights in a row. So this week is a bit of a write off, hopefully next week will be a much more chilled out week!
San Choy Bow
It was all very exciting here yesterday as this recipe was featured on the baby hints and tips website. But for those who don’t follow us on facebook, I thought I’d post this recipe today, as it is a great family recipe. It’s a crowd pleaser, while being friendly to the budget.

I love beef mince. It is such a versatile ‘cut’ of meat. It is cheap, and defrosts quickly when you have left meal preparations to the last minute. I have lots of mince recipes that I will be sharing with you over the coming posts, and the one I am starting with is San Choy Bow.
When I first made this, I wasn’t sure my kids would eat it. It is loaded with vegetables, and sweet Asian sauces, which my kids don’t normally go for. But surprisingly, every time I have made this, they all declare it as their favourite meal ever!
